CHCH A ZERO, INDEED

More unintended? sad hilarity from the many millennials at CHCH.
In what surely has to be one of the worst daily newscasts in all of Canada, 11 has again caused WTFs across the region.

Last week, a tragic and nasty murder case involving a school teacher son allegedly burning to death his mother and stepfather in an alleged murderous arson, had an arrest and CH showed up at the accused's place of work, a primary school in north Hamilton to, among other things, interview(!) young children that the accused had taught in grade 3.

Lisa Hephner, usually a solid reporter-one of the very few at CH- began sticking a mic in the faces of young children who it is hard to imagine had a concept of death, let alone murder. Accordingly, it was a cringe inducing segment with the kids sincerely trying to answer Hephner's questions but obviously not really comprehending and this is the sort of obtuse thing that happens rather regularly at the nothing channel and causes much head shaking and even cynical laughs in the community.

I doubt it was all Lisa's fault though, as these types of streeters need lots of footage, but it would be the responsibility of the editor/producer, not to be stupid in what aired, which is what occurred.Really stupid.

When CH blew out dozens of competent staff in 2015, they assured the type of amateurs just out of Mohawk College or Dog's Hind Leg, northern Ontario cable access TV staff ,that they appear to have now.

And some of the few good ones, get the hell out, like Brit Dixon did last year when she decamped to Brock U shortly after having some jerk yell GHBTP during a segment in front of the police station.Few would blame her.

Finally,of course, the management had no money to retain the veteran staff back in '15, but now have multi millions to build a new broadcast palace not even in Hamilton, proper.

Embarrassing.

I'm sorry, I do not understand Hamilton enough to understand your point.
Is Flamborough, Ontario any worse than
CTV having studios in Scarborough (Agincourt) instead of downtown Toronto?

Re: CHCH A ZERO, INDEED

Wow, that's all you got out of that whole post?

With logic and awareness like that, maybe you should go apply there, you'd probably go far.

The nothing channel continually bills itself as a core Hamilton station, proud to be, yada, yada, yada. And yada.

However, the only time just about anyone from the station find themselves in the core of the city, is when they are reporting on a theft, assault, or murder.

Most of them live in Ancaster, Dundas, and Waterdown and don't go anywhere near the blight if they can help it.

Re: CHCH A ZERO, INDEED

However, the news at the many times less than zero CH newscasts is not all bad.

So far, mercifully, they have not yet fallen victim to the SJW/radical feminist pandering agenda other Hamilton media outlets employ almost daily.

In fact, CH went pretty hard on the Antfi creep masked cowards who busted up Locke Street last year while one of the other the electronic outlets in the city, employing a radical feminist SJW "reporter" who chases snowflake outrages, appeared to be not so outraged over the dopey "anarchists" and their idiotic "message."

Of the millennial mob at CH, Nicole Martin appears to be a keeper, although she sometimes does goofy things, like lip synching to the Happy Days theme one time, for some bizarre reason. She's young yet, though, so slack given.
https://www.chch.com/personalities/nicole-martin/

Little Kelly Bothelo is better than one might think at first and most observers like her. A hard worker.
https://www.chch.com/personalities/kelly-botelho/

And Lisa Hephner is carrying on the tradition of smart, tough, streetwise female reporters like Kathy Renwald, who was groundbreaking in the 80s and 90s.
https://www.chch.com/personalities/lisa-hepfner/

So, it ain't all bad.

Just most of it.

Re: CHCH A ZERO, INDEED

Thats a horrible way to report a story and interrogate the children.

CHCH is an oddball.  The on-air staff also appear to be heavy drinkers for some reason.

Re: CHCH A ZERO, INDEED

Another issue at the Nothing Channel is a fraud called, "Game Time," which airs on Friday and Saturday nights after the news.

You won't find it specifically listed in the CH lineup, but rather the time block is shown as "paid programming."

Here's the listing from Passport:
https://www.tvpassport.com/series/game-time/290473

This clearly fraudulent "show," a call in in which a series of bizarre female "hosts" pose word game puzzle "contests" that appear so simple, yet are not what they seem.  Game Time-and CHCH- has been called out by a few media outlets for the sham the game is yet CH continues to air the obvious rip off.
https://mikebattista.com/2009/11/02/playtv-canada-is-a-scam/

Some former players claim they were taken for thousands of dollars trying to win relatively small cash awards.

The scam works by encouraging viewers to call in with answers to the puzzles but rarely do they actually get through to the producers, yet every time they call, their phone bill is charged a fee.

Obviously, Zero has a legal opinion that Game Time conforms to the letter of the law, but no one in their right mind thinks it conforms to the ethical one, or the well being of their ripped off viewers.

And the eventual complaints to the CBSC-a leisure time service of the offenders-was typical in its do nothing disposition:
https://www.cbsc.ca/chch-dt-re-game-time/

For CH to continue to air this bunko bamboozled BS is further testament to their continuing Zero credibility.

And, for the rest of the local media to give the nothings a pass on this, says a lot too.

But for many harried Hamiltonians, just another day in paradise.

CHCH viewers should watch for on-air staff smiling after taking a sip from their Tim Horton cup, as well as slurred words and big rosy noses.    All of this works best of you have a state of the art high definition receiver as markow202 evidently has.

Re: CHCH A ZERO, INDEED

Game time is definitely shady.  I even remember seeing it years ago on Global in the mornings.  I remember stumbling across it a while ago and the disclaimers and warnings about the rules were constantly scrolling on the screen.

The only redeeming quality for CHCH these days for me is that they run Hogan's heroes at noon -- with no laugh track.  If you're a fan of the show, check it out.  It actually changes the show's feel.  Wish I could lay my hands on those episodes on DVD/Bluray/Whatever.

Another character is Tim Bolan.  I think he does the morning show stuff aswell and used to be on TWN.

What about Cheers & Happy Days between 5 & 6:00?    Redeeming qualities all over the screen!

Perhaps liquor isn't a problem, as everyone seems to be into Tide-pods these days

Re: CHCH A ZERO, INDEED

So, CH spent 5 minutes at the top of the 6PM newscast today on the Red Hill Expressway revelation that a safety report commissioned by the city and completed in 2013 on the traction equation of the road that found a problem with the "friction" level of the road, was not presented to council  and  so was not kosher enough to be made public, until now.

Who leaked it, will be another laugher, as well.

A phoney "apology" was rendered by the city late last night at council after the mandarins had already left for refreshments, and today, the mayor told CH that aliens had probably caused the problem, or in other words, something like what Mike Tyson used to call, ludicrous.

The RHE has long been a wankest. Originally proposed in the 50s, the Hamilton mountain to Red Hill Valley bypass road was kicked around for decades until finally getting  started in the 90s, amid giving environmentalists like Don Maclean a nervous breakdown, as well as taxpayer concerns.

When finally completed, the road, which was mostly championed by the Hamilton media including CH, was subject to regular flooding which shut it down, as well as problems with homeowners backyards falling into ravines due to erosion.

Several years ago, there was an opinion that one of the contractors who were involved in the build, and which later went bankrupt amid an international scandal, may have used contaminated materials in the fill used to bed the road.
It is therefore ironic, that CH is banging away at a situation that may have resulted from a former local company, Philip Services, now defunct, that was handled with kid gloves by the station when the channel was owned by WIC in the 90s despite widespread controversy over their business practices, and which may have had a hand in problems surfacing now.

File under, karma is a bitch?

Of course all this possible intrigue may be above the pay grade of the go along to get alongs of the meisters at Zero, yet even anchor Phil Perkins, certainly not in line for any RTDNAs in the near future, appeared to be ever so slightly raising a tiny millennial eyebrow over the latest RHE happenstances.

And little Kelly Bothello, did the best she could on the lengthy report, but once again was let down by editors who made a dog's breakfest of the goings on.

Stay tuned, this story may have legs.

Re: CHCH A ZERO, INDEED

DRTJO

Please excuse my logic and awareness, but what does the supposed "kid glove" treatment given to a  former Hamilton based company (Philip Services) by a former Corporate owner of CHCH (WIC) have to do with the current ownership and management / direction of CHCH News?

Well, it's a uniquely Hamilton thing, Glen.

What Paul Palango famously labelled, "the Mafia of the mediocre."

Look it up.

Are you betting on its imminent failure or does it just appear that way?

Re: CHCH A ZERO, INDEED

I might, but Pro Line does not list it.

Yet.

The whole thing might be chalked up to, as someone once said, the bitter angles of our nature.

Re: CHCH A ZERO, INDEED

We come tonight to praise, sort of.

Although anchor Phil "The Thrill" Perkins-who used to be an op-gives new meaning to the Less Nessman obtuse, he nonetheless presented a nice report by the frisky little Kelly Botelho on a local mortgage broker accused of forcing a stripper to give him oral sex. In other words, what?

Anyways, props must go to CHCH for not spewing out the nauseating "believe all women" in this ridiculous #metooliar crapola age.

Most other Hamilton outlets presented the accused as a son of Satan, in their SJW type inquisition reporting.

The little Kelly report was fair, balanced and professionally shot, and edited.

Keep trying, Zero.
