5.3 million viewers in Canada, watched the Superbowl...

Half of the 5.3 million viewers fell asleep by half time...the game was a bit of a defensive battle, (aka...snooze fest)...

A quarter of the viewers bought a bag of Dorito's on Monday and couldn't get Michael Buble's music out of their heads... (commercials shown during the game).

But these are impressive ratings to say the least...for a game in which has no big direct impact on us.

Here is more on the story...

the stupor bore is for sure over rated at the best of times.... and this year was the bottom of the barrel.  so what does that portend for next year?  the ad rates will be lower, as will the viewer expectations.  poor bell, another round of layoffs to balance the deficit?

Ads are the reason to tune in. Football is just the bait.
The American ads are the real entertainment.

I'm a wee bit skeptical of the CTV claim of 5.3 million viewers...,

Kinda like Global's claim of 4.2 million Canadians tuning in to watch the New Years Eve celebration from Niagara Falls 4 years ago. Well, it was more like an of average if 1.5 million viewers with a peak to 4.2 million tuning in just before midnight...   and ten minutes later they are rolling credits.... Good Night!

Such a ratings bonanzza, that Global gave up the rights...

Re: 5.3 million viewers in Canada, watched the Superbowl...

Some of the ads this year felt like parody ads of Superbowl ads, if you know what I mean.

The one with Sarah Michelle Gellar, and the riff on the Scream movie, attempting to sell an Oil of Olay product was godawful. The much hyped Washington Post ad was something that first year college students would throw together, and the Game of Thrones beer ad was the Worsteros commercial that aired that afternoon.

Usually if the game's not so good, the ads make up for it, but not this year!

It can be debated whether or not the official numbers of viewers are accurate, but the majority of people probably gave the remote control a serious workout flipping through the channels frequently through this year's yawn of a game, and less than stellar Superbowl ads, cause a rerun of 'The Hunt for Red October' or 'Goodfellas' would have been a hell of a lot more entertaining.
