Re: The Songs Oldies Radio Forgot

Oh boy. This Everly Brothers tune doesn't get anything like the airplay it deserves.

From July 1967, this one hit #40 on the Billboard Hot 100, but got to #1 (with a bullet) in Canada.

Re: The Songs Oldies Radio Forgot

If we're looking at The Everly Brothers, why not a few more?

From 1960, and written by Phil...

From 1962, and written by Howard Greenfield and Carole King (yeah that Carole King)...

And, from 1984......written by none other than Paul McCartney...

this #1 song seems to be forgotten. btw, phil spector was a 1/3 of the "teddy bears"... plus he wrote and produced the song.

Shirley's 1976 cover of this song by Fleetwood Mac (a Christie McVie composition).

Re: The Songs Oldies Radio Forgot

This sensational One Hit Wonder charted higher in Canada than the U.S., but what a terrific tune.

Billboard's country #1 for the first week of 1963. Both Flint top 40 stations played it. And yet another song about a woman named Ruby --

Re: The Songs Oldies Radio Forgot

This may be a first where someone 'quotes' themselves, but when I saw the Electric Prunes I thought that maybe my post from the past got lost in the shuffle.

I haven't heard any of these songs and I listen very often.

And, a Lennon-McCartney composition.

Another by Lennon-McCartney.

And yet another by Lennon-McCartney

The Dave Clark Five are memorable for another reason. They're the only Top 40 hitmakers I can recall who had two different tunes on the charts with the exact same title in two separate years (1964 and 1967.) Both were great.

And then there's their all time best:

Re: The Songs Oldies Radio Forgot

I just heard "Juanita Banana" by the Peels and it reminded me of...

Mel Blanc adding his voice to the song makes it so much better that it would have been without him.

Re: The Songs Oldies Radio Forgot

Ray Peterson's rendition of "Corrine, Corrina" was produced by Phil Spector.
