The Buffalo News reports that the Queen City has a new #1 radio station - and it's a very old one, to boot.
WBLK has supplanted traditional country formatted WYRK as the top rated outlet in the city. The usual suspects are all there - WBEN, WHTT, WGRF etc. But it's the surge of little WECK (likely helped by its FM repeater and its line-up of veteran Top 40 legends) which is making headlines.
Even though it's tied for 10th, that's a huge move for a station that for all intents and purposes, has no real signal and has never really rated anywhere in Buffalo. Whoever said personalities don't matter anymore might check out what this long dormant competitor has been able to do.

Great and heartening article.
I am wondering, just wondering if there may be something in this story that could be learned and applied by the folks that operate several formerly popular AM stations in Southern Ontario.
Or will they continue to drive their AM operations to the point of non-viability despite a wide coverage signal. Is the capital needed to bring one of the stations back to life worth the risk?

92.9 The Grand sounds great with oldies and former CKOC jocks.
