That's a great article.  Canada's only FM though?  Didn't CBC start fiddling around on FM just after the war in 1946? Eng/Fre in Montreal, and Toronto and Vancouver I believe.  People will also argue CKOI was on the air in the late 40's also, definately by 1957.

Wonder if the tapes were as muddy in the late 50's as the carts were in the late 70's early 80's ?   It used to drive me crazy how muffled the FI music was compared to CKFM.   I offered at one point to re-cart the entire library on my own time because they sounded like crap, and was informed by a respected member of station management that "That's why radios have treble controls..  leave them alone".   

I did..  I moved over to CKFM .    Vinyl and CD players...  I think the only carts we played at the time were jingle's and news stuff.  (as well as commercials obviously).  And CKFM had ITC delta IV decks..  complete with auto azmuth and fast forward.  No more white noise and manually moving the record head before recording on every cart.   Or the ultimate crime, waiting for 3 minutes and 36 seconds for a spot to re-cue because some clown had put a 30 second spot on a 3.5 minute cart.

I was a happy kid! .

CKFM 99.9 right?  I only remember it from the MIX days.   Its good as a Top 40 station these days
