The team at Rogers owned 680 News are celebrating that on this day, in 1993, the station was first heard on the airwaves in the all-news format.
Lots of radio people are tweeting out their congrats on 25 years. The station is marking the occasion with lots of content, including loads of pictures, and bloopers to listen to.
When I moved back to Toronto from Montreal, 680 was the first AM station I discovered, and I still listen to it on a regular basis. It's my Coles Notes for what's going on in the world. The high energy delivery would be a challenge for an on-air news person to get used to, and produce day in, and day out. I admire the pace they keep up.
I also admire 680 for using "Breaking News!" in a way that stays true to the concept of breaking news.
Congratulations 680 News on 25 years, with your many memorable announcers giving listeners quick updates without all the faff.
"The news watch never stops."

I'm not a huge fan of Rogers and its business practices, as everyone here knows. But I will give Ted Rogers credit for one thing. He was always able to look far ahead and see what the next big trend was down the road, getting into cable before it was a big deal (and nearly going broke in the process), seeing the potential of cell phones before anyone else did, and understanding that music on AM was going away, when most other stations were still cranking out the tunes.
The story goes that one of his execs came to him with the idea of an all-news format and asked him this question: "How would you like to lose $5 million?"
While most would say 'get out of my office!' Rogers response was different. "Tell me more," he reportedly said. And that's how they got where they are today. Although I doubt they're losing $5 million anymore!

Remember when a train accident led to a major evac in Oshawa? If you were listening to 680 you may be forgiven for being blissfully unaware. That afternoon they were leading with a Rudy Blair fluff piece on another Rogers station's format change.
Keep up the good work, folks!

Here's what the station put up to celebrate the occasion, including videos and a few audio clips - not to mention the last minute of CFTR as a music station transitioning to the new format.

they're weak on is social media posts especially traffic. I'll often check social media (Twitter, etc) to see if these stations post about traffic jams. Sometimes they're late or miss a closure, etc.
Maybe they don't tweet about traffic, as checking your cell whilst driving is a safety no-no, not to mention an illegal one?!
