Rogers To Launch CitytvNow and FXNow As Online Services

The so-called upfronts are being held this week, as execs from all the major broadcasters - like, Rogers, Corus and Bell - unveil what they're planning for the coming fall season and what they bought from all those U.S. suppliers and networks. But amidst all the hype about the shows they just know you can't live without (and of which, about three will be back the season after) there's one announcement that's more about where you'll see it then what you'll see.

Rogers is planning to launch two online services called "CitytvNow" and "FXNow," which are supposed to make it easier to view content from these stations online. But as usual with Rogers, there's a catch. You have to be a current subscriber to connect to either one and they won't be sold separately, like Cravetv or Netflix. It appears to be a kind of "on-demand" without the cable cord.

So, what does this mean for the current online viewing options on the City TV site? It seems the answer is flexibility and increased choice. At present City streams episodes of its shows, but only for a limited time and then they're unavailable for free. The new entities will give you access anytime.
