The CRTC approved an application yesterday (Wednesday) to launch a new local radio station to serve Milton.
Broadcasting at 101.3 FM, the new station is run by My Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), which operates in 16 markets across Ontario — most in small- or medium-sized markets such as Port Elgin and Brighton.
No official launch date has been set.
MBC will have two years to get the station on air, according to CRTC regulations. MBC states it is likely it will be launched by the spring of 2016.
“Milton will make an excellent addition to our group, said Jon Pole, president of MBC. “We’re extremely pleased that the Commission continues to support the growth of small market broadcasters in Canada. We look forward to being heavily involved in the Milton community, and producing great local content for many years to come.”
The station will provide local news, weather, sports and community events along with specialty programming. The music will be mix of artists such as: Elton John, Katy Perry, Bryan Adams, Bruno Mars, Melissa Etheridge, Blue Rodeo, Fergie, Lifehouse, Tom Cochrane and Maroon Five.
Residents will also be able to listen online at www.myfmradio.ca.
