More Detroit Rock WRIF FM

Have just uploaded a twin spin from Detroit rock station WRIF FM which was mentioned on a recent thread.

One clip features a segment from a non mainstream show called The WRIF Rock Cafe from 1982. The other has the regular AOR programming from 1985. May rekindle memories from Q 107 from the same era.

The clips are excellent quality.

WRIF FM 1982 & 1985

Re: More Detroit Rock WRIF FM

As someone who was living withing their signal range around that time and one later occasion, I always enjoyed the blend of music on WRIF during that time period. Great mix of new and older, prog to hard rock and a number of specialty programs that were a true departure from the mainstream. And despite intense competition, they were one of the market's leading stations for years. Naturally this was before the era of consultants and consolidation.

Re: More Detroit Rock WRIF FM

Does anyone remember this commercial for WRIF. There were other versions customized for each station. Featuring Kelly Harmon. Once married to John DeLorean.

Can't properly embed the WRIF commercial above but here's other versions:

Mind you, WRIF's PD Fred Jacobs left to become one of the most successful and respected consultants in radio.
