As Broadcast News Coverage Shrinks, CBC Plans More Worldwide Bureaus

Among the places where Canada's national broadcaster will expand coverage: Beijing, Mexico City, Berlin, Jerusalem, Mumbai and Los Angeles. The plans were confirmed by the Corp.'s Editor-in-Chief Brodie Fenlon, on the eve of CBC's 90th anniversary - which happens this Sunday, Nov. 2nd.

I'm not always a fan of the CBC, but it's good to see a broadcaster expanding instead of cutting news coverage, which seems to be the norm in most places these days.

An update on CBC’s plans to open new world bureaus

On the whole, CBC has decent news coverage and I don’t have a problem with them expanding their international reach, not a bad use of our tax dollars! Although I honestly think AM740 still does a solid job with their news.

Jorge Barrera has been doing a great job covering Mexico and Latin America over the past year, I’m glad to see his post is becoming permanent. As someone heavily connected to the region I’ve been glad to see his reporting on issues like drinking water access and also items about Day of the Dead festivities and also monarch butterfly migrations and how it impacts Canada. Canadian media has traditionally only reported about drug cartels and the US border (both remaining major issues there) and hasn’t reported on much else there, it’s good to provide a Canadian perspective on Latin America to Canadians, especially as more and more Canadians have been visiting Mexico in the past couple of years.

I don't agree with the cbc's politics, but good for the cbc.
Out of all the bbc's stations, there world service is the most moderit and trusted one, so hopefully the cbc starts a cbc world service or brings back rci international.

My uncle travled to the region.
Its safer than most think, and, most immigrants who come here from that region have simular values to canada and as far as I know, they've adapted well to our country unlike some from the islamic world such as somalia and afghanistan.
Canada neads to know more about the culture, latin countries are popular vecation spots for canadians, latin music is popular, and foods from the region are becoming popular.

I also love 740's news.
They should add more talk programming during weekdays to compeet with 1010 and 640.
I'm sure there audience will grow.
There fight back seems to be popular and free for all fridays gets lots of callers.
In my friendgroup, 740's more popular than 640 or 1010, cbc and 680 are runners up for the stations my friends listen to, 1010's a close third and 640's dead last or a rarity in my personal friendgroup.

Nice to sea the cbc's not anty-isreal with this conflict in the middle east.

Absolutely. I’ve spent a lot of time in Mexico (not at resorts) including earlier this month, the issues the average person there faces aren’t all that different to major cities in Canada or the US, though access to reliable water is more of an issue and armed robberies are more common than in Canada. One thing you don’t see much of there is the amount of open air drug use or mental health issues that we’ve become accustomed to.

'Nice to sea the cbc's not anty-isreal with this conflict in the middle east.'

Might I interest you in honestreporting.ca

A search on that site will generate hundreds of examples of dubitable reporting concerning Israel in just the last year.

A fine example ..

That approach didn't end well for Travis Dhanraj
