The first one to admit defeat was former CTV weatherman Anwar Knight, who was running for a council seat in Mississauga Ward 9. He was beaten by the incumbent, Martin Reid.

Media folks are 0 for 2 in the race.
Natalie Johnson came in second to "I'll run anywhere" Nate Erskine-Smith. Will she be able to return to CTV Toronto as a reporter after her loss in Beaches-East York, just as AM640's Greg Brady was allowed to come back to the morning show following his loss in a past vote?
I hope so. I always found her to be a good and fair reporter and she surely knows the inner workings of her beat at City Hall.

Anwar got his ass kicked BIG TIME! 11 thousand and something votes to his mere 2000 votes.
That's too bad. (for him) Better luck next election!

When Anwar knew that he would lose the election, he resorted to implying that there was something shady about the incumbent councillor’s campaign finance disclosures. Anwar was never going to win against someone who was born and raised in the ward, when he doesn’t even live there.

I'm not against people in news running for a political job - anyone is allowed to switch professions.
But I have to confess it irritates me no end when someone who was a journalist ends up in office and then uses the exact same techniques that drove reporters crazy. I'm thinking of people like Evan Solomon, who for years would grill politicians on CTV or on CFRB and then have to listen while they dodged answers, forcing him to try again to get even a small nugget of truth out of them.
Now he's in the government as a minister and spews the exact same elusive BS replies to the press that he tried so hard to avoid in his on-air days. It seems hypocritical and to me, disqualifies him from ever being in broadcast journalism again.
Which is too bad, because I really liked Solomon on air. But I don't think I would ever trust him to bring me the news again if he ever returned to his old job.

Almost forgot frequent guest Caryman S'ad, who is always shooting footage of protests and is a guest so often on radio, she's practically an employee.
She lost in Toronto-Danforth and I assume that means she'll start popping up again on both CFRB and AM640 as a panelist.

Mark Sutcliffe is back as mayor of Ottawa. He once toiled at CHEZ-FM before moving to the newsroom at CFRA. He won a second term in Monday night's election.

Does this mean the end of those "Know Your Rights" spots he does on radio?
