Has CTV Toronto Finally Solved Its "Anchor Weather" Issue?

If Tuesday's noon show was any indication, perhaps it has.

I've complained here (yes, I know, endlessly) about how useless staff weather is when either Lindsay Morrison or Jessica Smith are off, and the anchors are forced to deliver the forecasts without obviously ever having seen the graphics in advance. The result is usually a disjointed mess which is more confusing than helpful.

And then on Tuesday's noon show came something I've never seen them do before - throw to a pre-packaged full weather segment featuring CP24 meteorologist Bill Coulter. Not only did viewers get all the maps and graphics (although slightly different than what we've seen before) but it was coherent, concise and contained everything you needed to know in one slick two minute package, fronted by a guy who actually knew what he was talking about.

I've been critical of CFTO on this way too often (it's still painful to watch their anchor weather on the weekends) but this was a vast improvement on their past efforts. I hope they do it every time one of their regular weather presenters is off.

As I often say, if you're going to do it, do it right.

This time, they did.

Re: Has CTV Toronto Finally Solved Its "Anchor Weather" Issue?

I suggested this a long time ago that weather should be done by CP24.
My guess is that CTV weather contracts were up
(or that CP24 contracts were being renewed to include CTV Toronto news?)

Now, can they do CP 24 weather live on CTV Toronto?

I'm assuming it's contractual, but I've never understood why they don't lean on CP24 more often. Seems like a wasteful duplicaton of effort to me.

Sometimes, that's what the unions protect.

Bill explains the weather really well, and so does Natasha.

I would, in fact, be interested to see what Scarborough Bluffs has to say about this.
