I've been listening a lot to the Greg Carrasco show on Newstalk1010. I have to admit I find him quite entertaining and enjoy the show. One thing I'm curious about though - he's always mentioning how there are "tens of thousands" of even 100 thousand people listening... is this possible? I didn't think Saturday morning radio would have that type of reach...? But he says it so often... along with "Canada's LARGEST automotive radio show" - just wondering how much truth there is to this?

My guess? Not much. He can call it the largest because he's on a 50K Toronto radio station. Large does not equal listeners. By the way, Jack Berkovits used this same shtick and I expect we'll hear it again when his show starts this Sunday on 1010.
No matter what station he was on, even including his stint on Sauga 960, he was always claming he had thousands of listeners and the numbers were growing week by week, the fastest growing show on radio, etc. etc.
I don't think I needed to see the numbers to disbelieve that. I have a feeling that claim is going to resurface after a few weeks.

from what I can tell Carrasco is just living out a radio character show.
He seems to have his fingers in a lot of pies and he obviously knows how to sell cars.
But his Saturday 1010 radio shows seems to be largely an entertainment show.
It also seems to be just a huge narcissistic exercise.
But what the hell, I guess he is paying for it so in the end it"s just a big informercial/ promotion for him and his car businesses.

I didn't realize he paid to be on the air? How does that work if they are airing all sorts of other commercials during his show?

I imagine what he's doing is buying whole blocks of time for his shows and then sells time within that block for advertisers, similar to what Byron Allen is doing on CBS with Comics Unleashed. At least that would be my guess.

It's about 50,000 people per week.

Yes I am sure all of his programming and commercials are bought.
Personally I would not believe most of what he's saying about anything. It's all a big ego trip.
He uses it to advertise his car dealerships and also his jiu jitsu schools which in my experience are money making scams.
I allege he actually runs what are commonly called "Mcdojos.

Just dug a little deeper, and for people under 65 it's about 7,000 listeners.
Meaning, the 50,000 is pretty much the baseline "1010 is rusted in" 24/7 crowd, who may or may not be actually listening. It's the background murmur.

don't forget the men's health clinic selling peptides. apparently there's another business venture being launched shortly too.

He's worked at every dealer in southern Ontario so even if he can sell cars an awful lot of dealerships decide he's not worth the aggravation.
As I mentioned in an earlier post, I nicknamed him Greg Carasshole when I work with him, so maybe a few other people feel the same way. But I'm sure his radio show is delightful.

About $8.95 (plus HST), by the sounds of it.

You guys seem jealous of his success ? So what if he pays for the time . This guy has the constitutional right to do what he wants with his time and money. Don't like it, don't tune in 1010 on Saturday morning.
