The CFRB morning man told listeners he's now going to be making twice-weekly appearances on CP24 to talk about the big stories of the day. His segments will run on Tuesday and Thursdays, around 9:20 AM.
Hmm, didn't he just threaten to retire if he didn't get off the 9 AM shift, resulting in Bill Carroll's return to Toronto radio? He said he felt overworked and now he's going to do two post nine o'clock appearances on another Bell property. Granted, they're shorter segments and he won't be responsible for the rest of the hour.
But it's interesting that having just gotten off that extra hour he insisted was so onerous, he's going back to the well he seemingly just escaped from.
Speaking of Carroll, he announced at the end of his show on Tuesday that he's off for the rest of the week. Does the Toronto audience still get the Ottawa substitute via 1010 or is someone local going to fill that slot? We'll find out on Wednesday who it is.

You’re right RA, seems like an odd move for Moore considering he wanted to basically work less. But I wonder if it will be pre-taped, depending on its length he could do it during a news break. It may have also been part of his new deal with plans of going daily perhaps. Stay tuned!

Yes. I'm thinking the TV appearances might not require a lot of extra work or preparation (some, but not a lot) - similar talking points or perspectives from the 3 hours of his show for a segment only lasting a few minutes and a great way for Moore to explore another medium. A very different animal than that full extra hour five days a week of the radio show, which sometimes had extended author, musician or PR junket conversations (though not as long as the even more extended ones that would air on his weekend pre-taped show) that required reading the book and other prep. I thought of that extra radio hour as more a "magazine" format and including the wildcard of taking listener calls.

Turns out it's Jerry Agar doing an extra hour of his show. Bill Carroll is off the rest of the week, so I'm assuming it's Agar for the next few days.
So what are they hearing in Ottawa? Graham Richardson, who is sitting in for Carroll.
Richardson is well known from his appearances on CTV and The Vassy Kapelos Show, as well as having his own program on Friday afternoons, which also airs on 1010. Why they're not airing his fill-in segment in Toronto is beyond me.

One of 2 things.. Are the TV hits LIVE or recorded? (CP24 now does many things recorded) If Live, doubtful he will have to do much as he has been talking about most of it all day. If recorded.. they may do the hit while he's already on air during a break.
Getting him off air at 9am doesn't mean he expected to leave at 9am.. I think it was likely hoping to leave at 10 or 11am vs Noon or 1pm because he would have to plan the next day's show etc. Even with a quick live tv hit.. I'm sure it's not adding much to his day vs being on air until 10am that he use to do. I don't blame him for asking for 1 hour back at this point in his career.

That 9:30am-10:00am half hour for Newstalk 1010 Toronto listeners of Bill's is (apparently) live, but the Ottawa portion for that same slot is pre-taped. I would assume that Ottawa market pre-taping is sometimes the day before (interviews with book authors, charity leads, and other stuff that's not super up-to-the-minute timely) or even during breaks on the morning show (for anything timely).
I'm thinking the "production" of this is too much to ask for a fill-in host to manage, do, or even get their head around. Bill might do some of those conversations himself via Zoom at his home studio later in the morning previous or afternoon previous, then sends the raw audio recording to a producer to edit, for example. Or a producer sets that up. The whole "workflow" of "on the air in two cities at the same time but half that is independent to each market" is a lot to try to get a fill-in host to do. Easier to just do a live Ottawa hour, and Jerry does a live Toronto hour. Bill is a unique animal in straddling both markets.

Interesting explanation. Thanks for that.

Yes. Just my theory but seems likely to me. Two other things to consider:
1) Bill was used to doing this pre-taping some content/live toggling other between two stations for KFI 640 and Toronto's AM640 back in the day so knows that "rhythm". A guest host is going to find this dizzying and potentially confusing. There's enough to learn/adjust to doing a "regular" live hour, much less this pre-taping/two city dance.
2) Graham Richardson is not particularly known to Toronto audiences aside the Friday show, as you mention. Putting him - an "Ottawa guy" - in the Bill Carroll slot doesn't give him the same name recognition/station association that Carroll had. Agar is established to Toronto audiences and already in the building. I actually think what they've done here is the right call for these three days!
