Can Anyone On Radio Or TV Pronounce This Candidate's Name Properly?

I can't remember any single mayoral candidate whose name has been butchered more on air in this city. But Dipika Damerla, who is running for the top job in Mississauga, has had her moniker brutalized on almost every Toronto newscast I can think of.

In the past few weeks, I've heard De-peak-a Dem-are-la, Dip-pook-la De-marla and Da-peek-ola Dom-more-la and just about every other possible combination imaginable. I believe the correct pronunciation is the one John Moore uses on CFRB, since she was a former regular on the morning Roundtable. He says it's "Dih-pick-ah Da-mare-la."

The point is that no one on either TV or radio seems to have bothered to check this, and it comes up in the news a lot right now. A simple phone call to her office would solve this once and for all, but so far, those getting it so wrong so often don't seem to have bothered.

Not that it's entirely revelant, but she was born in India.

Moore should have her on.
Maybe the reporters should ask her how to pronounce these names.

He can't have her on until after the election is over, unless she's coming on specifically as a candidate. I have a feeling she will return to the Roundable after the elections are done, because I don't see her winning the Mississauga mayor's chair. But under the rules, she's pretty much off the air as a panelist until after the votes are in.

Don't remember her on moore's roundtable.
So, who do you think will win?
One of the 2 crazies or the normal guy named alvin?

My guess is Parrish. There is some resentment there about Crombie fleeing for a better job. Now she wants it back. Are the residents there willing to forgive her for that? We'll know soon.

Or a visit to her social media, where she posts frequently and says her own name!

I must take exception to the two most well-known mayoral candidates in Mississauga, who happen to be women, being called “crazies” (not by you, RA; just adding onto my own post rather than creating a separate post). It’s misogynistic.

As a Mississauga resident myself, I feel that Bonnie had her opportunities as mayor here for almost ten years. I don’t want her back. I’m ambivalent about Carolyn Parrish also. I’ll vote for Alvin Tedjo, as I think we need someone younger, with fresher ideas about the city.

Speaking of Parrish, I notice she's bought paid time this Sunday afternoon on CFRB. It's essentially a one hour commercial, although you have to wonder how many voters she'll be reaching at that time and on that day.

I wouldn't necessarily count her out. There is a big number of East Indian voters in Mississauga. Even Sauga 960 is increasing their Punjabi broadcasting as posted in another thread.

The reason I called them crazies is because they broak out into a fight during the debate.
If you want to fight, then don't do it publicly.
That's whats rong with a lot of politisions.
If they did'nt do that, I would'nt call them crazies.

The east indian community's so large, but do they even want dipika?
She's not punjabi, but for a mayor, do most even want an east indian?
I think crombe's more popular in that community.

She should have bot the time on sauga instead.
Sauga neads more local programming.
When i've tuned in, it was mostly lifestyle talk and brokered time.
