SOCAN Sues U.S. A.I. Company Over Copying Cdn. Music

It's a CanCon battle of a very different kind. SOCAN, The Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers, is suing a U.S. A.I. firm called Suno, alleging the bot is stealing from acclaimed Canadian artists.

"The lawsuit cites 150 Suno songs that it says are identical or nearly identical to the works of Canadian artists including Joni Mitchell, The Weeknd, The Tragically Hip and others. SOCAN wants the AI company to comply with copyright law and for artists to have a say in how their works are used (or not)."

Other music companies, including Warner, Universal and Sony have launched similar lawsuits against the firm.

Welcome to the new world. I expect this is just the first of many such legal actions to come as users try to figure out how much A.I. can get away with.
