Global's Noon Weather Takes A Giant Step Backwards

Longtime readers of my screeds on this subject will probably remember all my complaints about Global's noon weather being divided between Toronto and Montreal. I grumbled that it wasn't all that relevant to viewers here since it split the forecast into two cities.

Well, things just got worse. With part 2 of the Morning Show (ironic name since it airs in the afternoon here) now on, I saw the latest incarnation of Global's weather forecast for the first time Wednesday. Because the show is now national, it features little mini-recaps of almost the entire country, with the GTA getting pretty short shrift. Gone are the satellite and radar shots that I used to plan my dog walks, replaced by, well, nothing but temperature predictions in each part of the country.

I know shows like Canada AM do this as well, but the fact we've lost another semi-local forecast and those great maps is a sad day for me. And yeah, I know I can get them on my phone, but there's something about seeing it in HD on a big screen that makes it easier to read.

At least there's still Lindsay Morrison over at CTV!

It's been a long time since I've thought of "Canada AM". It left the air June 2016 - hard to believe 10 years, but there you go.

I know many board members would point you to numerous phone-based weather apps which compete with each other for features, best radar visualizations, etc.  I do acknowledge some want to just flip on a TV channel for an easier and "curated" experience. Apps are convenient but some complain still feel like a "do it yourself" option.

Why not just watch The Weather Network for your area's weather...

Sorry. Old habits die hard. I knew it CTV's Your Morning, but my typing fingers apparently forgot!

There's a reason I prefer the TV version of those maps. Online and on air, they both go by way too fast to I.D. a timeline where there may be a break in the weather. So I put them into slow mo on my DVR and look for the breaks in the rain. And that's when the leash comes out and away we go. Otherwise, it's not conducive for a walk, because my dog doesn't like getting wet, but he still needs to go out several times a day.

It's a lot more helpful than you'd think.

This is the easiest way to see the when and the where, something I can't do online in as exact detail. Radar may not always be exactly right, but I find it pretty good most of the time.

As for the Weather Network, I have its website up on my PC, but since I'm not a Canadian cable subscriber thanks to the odious companies that own them, I can't watch it.

Gotta go - it's dry now!

Just watch cp24 or the weather network.
Don't trust corus because the whole thing's in the dumps and is now having a stronger focus on western Canada.

Interesting that The Weather Network has their fall forecast event on today.  Looks like we will have a warmer than normal fall and less precipitation with fewer storms for Southern Ontario.

Thanks to the Super El Nino. Have they made a Marvel or DC movie about him yet?
