I found this story almost impossible to believe at first, but apparently it's true. It's a place called Green Bank, West Virginia, and according to the story below, it doesn't allow any radio waves, cell phones or anything else that might disturb a giant telescope meant to receive signals from deep space.

Yet people live there and still manage to get through their day, as long as they don't generate any interference. 

"Any radio transmissions are limited by law, as are any devices that use radio frequencies like wireless doorbells, baby monitors and mobile phone signals."

Yet somehow, there is a radio station in town.

"WVMR is the lone radio station that is allowed to operate because its equipment and transmission paths were designed to comply with the quiet zone rules, as well as operating on a shielded link."

Not sure I would want to live there, but imagine the DX!
