He wasn't here long, and he became a legend in Chicago on WLS during the heyday of Top 40. But now John Landecker is a lot older - and he sounds it on the air. The radio veteran does talk on WGN in Chicago and recently had a special guest on to talk about the history of Windy City radio and the music it played.

The chat was just OK, but as I listened, I couldn't help notice that the most important thing for any radio personality was gone. Landecker no longer sounds like the smooth talking wise guy of old and his voice comes across as very old, a bit ragged and not at all similar to the guy who appeared on either The Big 89 or CFTR. 

I worked at TR at the time he arrived - it was not a good experience for most of us. But I'm still sad to hear how craggy his voice has become over the years. It's a shame to hear this talented man is no longer in his prime at age 79. But then, who is?
