The AM640 newsroom doesn’t have many people in it, but one of the longest serving members after the departure of Dave Bradley was afternoon news reader Danny Longo. And he was quite good. But you won’t be hearing that voice again after this week. Longo is the latest in what seems like a never-ending cluster of people let go by Corus.
His last day is Friday.
And talk about rewarding longevity and loyalty. Longo had been with the station for more than 15 years and with Corus for 18. He will be missed.
A source tells me they are still planning to hire new newspeople - but they'll work out of Global on Barber Greene Rd. and not at Corus Quay, similar to CFRB's set up of having its radio news done from Channel 9 H.Q. in Agincourt.

Here's the job listing. Notice that they want the successful applicant(s) to not only do news on 640, but also contribute to Global News, possibly on their website.
"The successful candidate will anchor and produce concise, accurate and compelling hourly radio newscasts on 640 Toronto while contributing original journalism across other Global News platforms."
Deadline to apply is Sept. 16th.

Danny Longo is quite good and it’s a shame that he’s being let go. My sources at Corus are feeling really stretched of late, what’s left of them!

Danny is an excellent newsreader and an even better guy.

That’s a shame. I’ve always enjoyed his work.
