About the cbc, instead of defunding, it neads major changes in the news department and with radio 1.
Bring back Travis Danraj, poot more centre-right voices on there, and stop cattering to islamic extremists.
9/11 Was and is a tarorist atack, does the cbc want to be like an islamist broadcaster?

The Torontto Setting Sun has long been on my ignore list.

And sorry to have to tell you this, but the Setting Sun is VERY much far-right. Just like the rest of Postmedia.

It's getting to the point where I trust Frank Magazine more than I do the Sun.

I had a feeling that with all the uproar over the memo, this would happen. Now it has.

After criticism, CBC changes policy that said not to label 9/11 attacks 'terrorism'

To me, the far-right supports nazies, is entirely racist, and is anti-non-anglo immigrant.
The toronto sun is none of these things, I trust it more than american concervitive outlets such as one america news network, american family radio, and newsmax.

While I doubt this will do anything to convince those who’s hatred of the CBC borders on the irrational, I’ll post this just to put it on the record:

I love pakistani, indian, and iranian muslims because they don't take there bad fundimentalist beleefs from there home countries with them to canada.
As far as I know, pakistani and indian muslims are not white skinned.
To me, its not about looks, its about values, and sharia and hamas and comunism are unwelcomed here.
Why did yugoslavs and ethiopians immigrate here?
They wanted to get away from strict governments, not relive it.

Actually if you go to Northern Pakistan many people there are faired skinned as are some in Kashmir and India, You may not be aware but you can find people with light hair and blue eyes.

Here is one of many such peoples:

A lot of them don't come to canada.
Most i've met were from karachi, which is not a fundimentalist city unlike places in afghanistan.
But, back on the cbc topic, the cbc neads restructuring instead of defunding.
I apresiate the cbc, but I cant relate to and don't realy like its news content as of resent.
I love cross country checkup and ontario today, but the cbc neads more right-of-centre voices on radio 1 and cbc news, and more genres on cbc music such as country, a deeper classical playlist, non-world music ethnic genres and music from more cultures, adault contemporary, and traditional first nations music, and east coast folk music and country.

Don't want to take this too far off topic but since it was raised here let me say that it is very unfortunate when one paints people with a broad brush. Karachi is a multi ethic and multi lingual city. Pakistan has  Black, Brown, Oriental and fair skinned people, The blacks have been there for hundreds and years and I believe they unfortunateley came as slaves, The Hazaras who also reside in Afghanistan are thought to have mongol origins, The Pashtuns who are the majority in the KP province of Pakistan are also found in Afghanistan, Then you have Punjabi and also quite a few other ethnic groups groups including many Indian refugees. Plus a number of sects of Islam as well as other religions.

Imran Khan the former Prime Minister of Pakistan and one time cricket champ may still be the most popular man in Pakistan but he is currently in jail. Perhaps taken out by the CIA, He is of Pashtun extraction and could probably pass for mediterranean as could some other Pashtuns.

Does not matter if the people are black or white or yellow.or brown,  Most people just want to live in peace, People should not necessarily blather on about things they know little about. I find Hugh Everett's "many worlds" interpretation of the multiverse fascinating but I not going to make pronouncements about it.

When Tony Burman headed CBC News, he decreed that Palestinian terrorists were not terrorists. He then left for the same job at Al Jazeera.

The CBC explanation that BowmanvilleBob posted should clear up any confusion.  But of course we know it won't, and like Bob mentioned, those that hate CBC will blissfully ignore it and continue on like they always do.  Wonder if Reuters, AP, BBC and others all go through all this as well?   They have the same policy...

It wouldn't be any of the Postmedia papers, that's for damned sure. Just remember this: Postmedia is majority owned by an American hedge fund that has been tied to the National Enquirer. Considering that Canada is now in a trade war with the U.S., why would ANYONE purchase a Postmedia-owned paper or subscribe to same unless there was no other option to get your news?

However, you asked and I'll answer. If I lived in the GTA, I'd go to ether the Globe or Mail or the Star for print journalism, 680 or the CBC if I want news on the go...and as for TV...I'd have to look around.

Well that's just it. 90% of anything that's 9/11 these days is wire agency unless it's NYT, WaPo or BBC. Maybe Al Jaz, haven't really delved on their coverage of the topic. Carol Rosenberg of the Times seems to be the only one sometimes tracking the legal odysseys of the Guantanamo detainees.
So in Canada it's either an auto feed of wire or the overwhelmingly number of CDN journalists don't amend wire copy on their sites. If the wire story is well written it should tell you in some fashion that the 9/11 commission concluded that it was a terrorist act or that al-Qaeda, a designated terror organization, claimed the attacks. But sometimes it doesn't.
The edict was rife for misunderstanding so it was boneheaded that way but the Sun, pulease, yeah, all that original journalism the Sun is doing in 2026 on 9/11. And they still have a fundamental misunderstanding in 2026 and can't wrap their heads around the fact that non-newspaper digital site in Canada don't have 38 blatherers offering opinion where you can call someone a terrorist until your heart's content. Plus I imagine part of the CBC edict was just to remind the on-air anchors not to freelance with opinion and stick to the written copy.

I appreciate your reply, thank you.

I will say (without getting into too much of a political discussion) that I think it's important that we all get news from different sources. Sadly, there doesn't appear to be many organizations these days, left or right-leaning, that report just the 'news' and leave it at that. Many of these organizations try and sneak their bias in what are supposed to be non-editorial pieces, and unfortunately, some the less enlightened or informed public take what they've read or heard at face value and leave it at that.

You bring up a good point that if a company is American-owned, there's a good possibility of an American slant there. Conversely though, if a news organization is getting bushels of money from the Canadian government, I think it's reasonable to assume there could possibly be some bias there. After all, who's going to bite the hand that feeds, right?

I think it's also crucial that we be our own fact-checkers too, and come to our own conclusions based on what we read or hear. I also think it's important that we don't stay confined to our own little (or not so little) echo chambers and bubbles, and automatically dismiss something as 'fake news', just because it's something we don't want to believe or doesn't fit our preconceived narratives.

Sadly, I think there's very few (if any) news organizations these days that can be trusted 100%, so the onus is on us to verify, verify, verify. It's unfortunate that we have to do that, but that seems to be the state of news reporting these days.

The frequent attacks on Canadian news media workers and private companies on this board are tiresome and frustrating.
Like it or not, in many markets across Canada, Postmedia actually has the largest news staff of any news outlets within those cities and communities, with wide ranging staff that can include full-time performing arts writers/reviewers, food writers/reviewers, local business reporters and local sports reporters etc., and yes they even break news stories beyond the CBC memo, it's more than just some random columnist whose point of view you might not agree with. Many of those workers are unionized workers. These workers are Canadians, working for Canadian outlets in almost every province for a Canadian company that has a Canadian head office staff that is in a prominent office tower on Bloor Street in Toronto, not much different than the CBC HQ on Front Street.
Yes, Postmedia has debt, the result of a management buyout in a different era that kept the company alive. Every Canadian saver, Canadian investor, Canadian company, Canadian banking institution, Canadian investment fund and especially Canadian pension fund had the chance to hold Postmedia's debt, if they wanted to, but they all chose not to, often preferring to make risky foreign investments instead. So American private equity stepped in to hold the debt, just as they do in many other employment sectors across Canada. To reduce the debt, Postmedia eventually did a debt for equity swap which gave an American company NON-VOTING SHARES that are also essentially worthless because there isn't likely to ever be a white knight that would swoop in to buy them.
Today, as many on this board would know, Corus is in the same boat. They have big debt too, thanks to the Shaw family's shell game that allowed Rogers to swoop in on the telecom side of their assets. Now there's going to be a debt for equity swap too. A Canadian company Canso holds some of the debt but it's not even publicly known who holds the rest of the debt, it could very well be American private equity that would end up holding the shares too.
But here's a little hypothetical clue for you all, that no one ever talks about: the federal government gives the CBC an annual subsidy of about $1.4 billion (to do "great" things like edicting that the 9/11 attacks that also killed Canadians were not terrorism), but one in six dollars that the federal government spends does not come from taxes and revenue, and instead comes from borrowed and printed money. In effect, the CBC racks up a debt of $200-250 million a year and has for decades, an accumulated debt that is far in excess of the debt of private companies Postmedia, Corus and the Rogers Media and Bell Media segments combined. It may be unlikely to ever happen, but what if the federal government ran into a debt wall and could no longer attract lenders to buy debt of $80-100 billion a year to maintain its overall spending. If the federal government then had to default on paying the interest on its bonds, it's not a stretch to imagine that the existing holders of federal government bonds would demand a swap of their debt for equity in federal assets, with the CBC being an easy one to hive off.
