I can't tell you how many times over the years my station did a live hit - or even hits, plural - from the C.N.E.
So did all the other stations in town. Every single day.
This year, outside of opening day, I've barely seen anyone going live from the annual fall fair. Not even the weather guy or gal has been doing a live spot, which was practically de rigueur back then.
What's changed?
My guess is there are fewer reporters and more important stories, so there are fewer people to send to the Ex for fluff pieces. I'm betting they'll be back for the last day of the CNE, but barring any disaster at the grounds, not before then.
How things have changed.

In today's times, product placement is the best way to go for being live @ CNE.
Do weather live from a Bell booth, but first throw in a quick plug CNE only promotion for switching to Bell,
something like that...
FYI, another major change, much like how there is no Pepsi at the CNE anymore (just Coke)
BELL is holding most of the rights to CNE presence. (it's even the BELL Bandshell now...)
Sure, you will see CINA group promoting 98.7 @ CNE's Food day, and there are some radio stations from Evanov group present, (& a few other companies, maybe)
But what you will NOT see this year is competition to Bell's booths that are trying to get people to sign up for Bell Fibe etc...
No Rogers, Telus or Quebecor (Freedom mobile, Fizz)
With not being free to promote Rogers services, there is no need for City TV to be there doing weather.
I have no idea what Bell's excuse is.

I think there’s less CNE coverage due to fewer reporters, as RA mentioned, which is too bad as I remember that pretty much any big summer exhibition you went to, most of the local radio stations had a booth and went “live from the fair”, plus most evening TV newscast had some type of live hit as well, usually weather, again as RA mentioned. It’s too bad, as you can do a live pop on a phone nowadays if you wanted, keeping costs down, but the manpower just isn’t there anymore.

Boom was there yesterday.
I went for glass tiger and I think Mae pots was the anouncer before the concert.
But other than that, the ex for me is boring.
Its more like an expanded mall.
Not werth it for me, I would rather travle to a rural fall fair.
