Speaking of covering Carney, all three Toronto stations with a noon news broadcast - Global, CTV and CBC - took the Prime Minister's latest speech live during their shows on Monday.
But Global maybe should have thought twice. A majority of the speech was in French (he was speaking in Quebec) and they had no translation at all. The other two did.
It was a waste of airtime for those not fluent in French as he went on and on and on in Canada's "other official language" which presumably those who don't parlez Francais could not possibly understand.
It's a dilemma - the Prime Minister was speaking during a tense time and Canadians are understandably anxious for updates. But what good is taking it live if the majority of your viewers in Toronto don't understand three quarters of the address that's not in a language they can understand?
Global, whose noon show is also seen in Montreal, was the first one to break out of the speech, but not before airing a long chunk of it, much of it in untranslated French. And as it turns out, most of it was about a new ship building contract in La Belle Province - and not trade at all.
