The Infamous Friends/Seinfeld Crossover You Never Got To See
Remember "Must See TV?" It was NBC's Thursday night powerhouse line-up, featuring shows like Friends, Mad About You and Seinfeld that reaped record ratings week after week. Several cast members from those shows went on other network programs for cameo appearances as part of promotional stunting.
But despite NBC begging for a Friends-Seinfeld crossover, which would have made the Nielsens blow through the roof, it never happened. The reason? Seinfeld Creator Larry David kept telling the network to curb their enthusiasm (sorry, couldn't resist) until he allegedly agreed - with a proviso even the Peacock Network couldn't possibly allow.
At least that's the apocryphal story. Is it true? Check out what the demands were to make it happen and see if you believe it.

Re: The Infamous Friends/Seinfeld Crossover You Never Got To See
Larry David couldn't or didn't stop every crossover attempt. There was an episode of Mad About You that featured lead character Paul Buchman subleasing an apartment to Cosmo Kramer. It was the only time that happened.
But Lisa Kudrow also played both Phoebe on "Friends" and her cousin Ursula on "Mad," although both were different characters.
So it wasn't like there was never a reference to a different show in the other.
