There's A New Contender For Most Irritating Spot On Local Radio

Heard it for the first and sadly not the last time on Thursday. It's some motor mouth guy speed reading at a breakneck pace a list of GTA neighbourhoods and areas in a breathless voice, before he reveals they're all places Canada Post delivers to on the cheap.

Incredibly annoying on the first listen and it almost makes me miss Fiona.

Almost.

Try and avoid it if you can. Among headaches, it's known as a carrier.

It sure is annoying! I think it was inspired by the “I’ve Been Everywhere” song but not as entertaining. I also cannot stand the “Alien here” Lotomax commercial, it just doesn’t work in my opinion, and they play the crap out of it on every station I listen to. On Wednesday I heard it and changed the station only to hear it about twenty seconds later on that station. OLG must have huge advertising budgets!

This horrible Canada Post spot is now in heavy rotation on just about every station I listen to, and it's driving me crazy. I can't turn it off fast enough, but it's over almost before it begins, so by the time I get to the tuner, it's too late.

If they don't stop it soon, I may just go postal! How ironic would that be?

Please, please make it stop! This horrendous spot is like COVID - it's infecting every radio station and it seems to run every 10 minutes. It's inescapable and probably the most awful copy ever written. How much longer is this disastrous commercial going to run?

It's the post office. Can't we "stamp" it out?

Haven't heard it yet, I have no doubt it's awful.

There's no excuse for a bad radio spot, guess the creative team involved just decided to mail it in.

RadioActive is right, this spot is in high rotation on most stations I listen to and it is annoying! Canada Post must have had a decent budget to market this but it is a pain, hopefully it’s a short run!

Too bad for Canada Post this spot doesn't "deliver."

Re: There's A New Contender For Most Irritating Spot On Local Radio

Sunday became my worst nightmare for this kind of thing. One of the usual suspects started playing that unlistenable Canada Post spot, so I immediately switched to another station, only to run into a second outlet running that execrable "Imagine if your child had cancer" campaign. So I switched to a third station, only to hit the Spence commercial, already in progress.

It was an audio nightmare and a sign of the times of how bad radio advertising has become.

Radio advertising is pretty bad these days, the creative just isn’t there like it once was. I remember a time when I would actually laugh at funny radio commercials but that doesn’t happen much anymore. And the Canada Post spot is on every station I listen to except Radio One, so unfortunately it is hard to miss RA!

Most of the creative people in radio have been let go or retired.

True. The same can be said for TV as well, as I used to be one.

Despite subjecting myself to either 640 or 1010 (and more and more frequently 610 out of frustration with the other two) from 7:30 am to around 6 pm , I have never heard this Canada Post ad.  Is it just blind luck, or do those stations not run it?

I’ve heard it on 1010, in fact, that’s where I first heard it. It’s even running on AM740. It’s the spot that lists off a bunch of Toronto neighbourhoods/areas off the top, fairly annoyingly at that!

So Walter, I had a radio on pretty much all day yesterday and did not hear this Canada Post ad on any of the stations I listened to, so chances are it has done its run, thankfully!
