For a guy working in a dying industry, he sure has a lot of demands.

I take two things from all this, although admittedly they're all supposition. 

It could mean that next summer, we'll be hearing less of Moore and more of Tory or some other sub. And if he's seriously started thinking of retirement, as he's stated, then how much longer do you think he'll remain on the show? I've found that once those wheels start turning in your brain, they generally don't stop until you arrive at your final destination - getting out of the game entirely. 

It should be interesting to watch how all this unfolds going forward.

This does not surprise me that John Moore may be retiring.  I had thought that for some time.  He was always making comments on it.  If he does retire, I wish him luck and hope he enjoys his time.  I will certainly miss him, as I like his show very much.  I am so hoping that John Tory does not take the 9 - 10 slot.  I'm sorry but that man does not stop talking.  He is like the energizer battery...just keeps going and going.  I am hoping that whoever takes that time slot that they are interesting, informative and has a sense of humour.

According to Moore, who grew up there, it's quite common in some businesses, including broadcasting. Thomas Mulcair, for instance, who does an early segment every Monday on CFRB, has been gone since about June, replaced by Marco Mendocino.

Where did he go? Moore says as is custom in Quebec, he's off on vacation until the fall. They definitely do things differently in La Belle Province...

Tom Mulcair is 71, a retired politician and a freelance personality.  Bell and Quebecor are lucky to have him as a pundit, they know it and so does he.  His summer break would have been worked into the contract. 

Sure some stars in Quebec media or executives in business might take most of the summer off.  This likely happens in the rest of Canada more than you would think.  Wouldn't be surprised if some veteran personalities at CBC take most or all of the summer off.  However the average person or employee in Quebec does not get the summer off as your statement seemed to imply.  The full summer vacation is the exception, and mostly reserved for well established executives or well known media personalities under contract with a long tenure or people like Tom Mulcair who can call many of the shots.
