I never even knew they made this thing, but a Star Wars headset radio that gets only AM is going up on the auction block, and it's expected to bring in huge money. That's because the device is based on a small scene in one Star Wars movie and was never referred to again.

But anything "Star Wars" was hot back then, so it initially seemed like a sure winner.

"Back in the ‘70s, AM radios didn’t really look like the most interesting devices. Their blocky shape and drab color schemes made them boring for kids, However, if you slap some Star Wars colobranding on it, you might suddenly be able to appeal to a whole new target audience. While that’s probably along the lines that the suits were thinking about, it’s still a very odd product choice that eventually didn’t work out. The interest for the item simply wasn’t there."

They stopped making it about a year after it hit store shelves in the late 70s and its rarity is expected to make it even more valuable.
