An Unusual Ad On CKOC

I haven't listened to CKOC in a while, after the switch back to 70s and 80s oldies. I have no idea if they even still have announcers on the station or if it's all automated.

But as I was tuning by the station on Saturday, I stopped and heard a spot - for CKOC itself. Essentially, the announcer was telling people "if you'd like to reach people 50 or older, contact our sales department."

I was surprised. Most stations don't even acknowledge that demo still exists, ironic since that's the age group that still listens to AM radio and traditionally has more disposable income. I'm not sure if it will make any difference, but it's nice to hear some stations acknowledge that there are people who aren't in the younger demo that are worth spending ad dollars on.

I doubt much will change, but it was definitely different.

Surprising that they actually have a sales department.

Probably the same one that handles CINA-AM 1650.

Re: An Unusual Ad On CKOC

A few years ago there was a spot similar to this which suggested that older demographics have more disposable income etc. so “ advertise here to reach them”. It might have been AM740 but I am not certain. They sound like similar messages, and why not!

Or all three, adding in, Big 820.

It's always struck me as being rather odd that the 55+ demo supposedly "doesn't matter" in terms of advertisers, but by the same token, radio is often considered an 'old persons media.'
