MyFM Renfrew Apologizes For Being Off Air

The station blamed an "equipment failure at the tower," for their temporary on-air outage. Doesn't happen often, but at least listeners could tune in online. It happened Wednesday during the morning drive, probably the worst time to be off the air.

Here's the brief announcement they posted to their website to tell people why they suddenly disappeared.

24/7 digital storage stations don't have the ability to do that.

Its a bummer when it happens for sure.   In this case we were sure it was an STL failure and gathered the gear to install a new unit and it turned out to be a processer reset. The good ol power cycle.   Its amazing how many times that works.

Thank you for the update and explanation. It is a pleasure to hear from an actual station owner.

Re: MyFM Renfrew Apologizes For Being Off Air

Once again, MyBroadcasting does something you don't see very often - inform listeners they'll be off the air, how long it will last and the reasons for it.

The latest came on the website for CFMY at 96.1 in Renfrew. They don't tell you why, exactly, but just the fact they're letting their audience know in advance is great. It's the same station that had a similar announcement at the end of June.

Here's the announcement.

Re: MyFM Renfrew Apologizes For Being Off Air

If you think this is a problem, check out what happened to three stations in Wyoming, after a "key piece of equipment that's "very expensive to replace" suddenly died.

"The organization ceased its online streaming broadcasting and other operations to keep expenses down after the equipment failed...The necessary investment in equipment to bring the signals back on air is in the “hundreds of thousands of dollars.”

As a result, the stations could be off the air for days or even weeks. Yikes!

I suspect an engineer told them this years back, and restated their concerns frequently.

'Running it like a Business' was a bit more stimulating. for some.
