It's Official: Canada Will Enter The 2027 Eurovision Song Contest
It's bigger than American Idol and has been running longer than most of those reality singing contests you see on North American TV. Yet some Canadians have never really heard of the Eurovision Song Contest. '
But they will soon, after the CBC - fresh from joining the European Broadcasting Union - confirmed it will send a Canadian rep. to next year's huge contest.
It's kind of like the Olympics of "Star Search," with each country sending a group or a solo artist with a new song, and the winner gets the glory. For some, like ABBA and Celine Dion (who competed for Switzerland) it's a starmaking turn. For others, it's a footnote in history. But it's a big deal overseas and it could become just as big here. But whatever happens, it's not likely to be boring.
"The Eurovision Song Contest is known for its pyrotechnics, extravagant costumes and performances that often embrace the sublimely bizarre."
The next event will be held in Bulgaria, but Canadians can vote from home on the winner.

For a humorous primer, check out the movie “Eurovision Song Contest” on Netflix. It stars Will Farrell and Rachel McAdams. Sure, it’s taking the piss slightly, but it pretty much sums it up, and is pretty funny!
Now I wonder who will represent Canada’s in its Eurovision debut? Thoughts? I think Angine de Poitrine would be an excellent choice and they wouldn’t be soon forgotten!

The date of this thing - it comes over several days - hasn't been determined yet, but we do know it's likely in the middle of May next year. It usually has a part one on Tuesday, part two on Thursday and the grand finale and winner is named on a Saturday.
The winner usually gets to host the following year's competition, unless the country declines. It costs a small fortune to stage this show, and some aren't willing to pay the price.
With CBC being taxpayer funded would they want to take this on should Canada somehow win?

This will be interesting to see how the show does on CBC. A lot of singers won't be performing familiar tunes all the time, or maybe a song that was big in Europe and not known here. And some competitors won't always be singing in English.

As I understand the rules (and I could be wrong, but I recall reading this somewhere) all the songs on the show have to be originals and not covers. If that's true, then none of the tunes will be familiar, since they will have to debut on the show.

This is the first new country to enter the contest since 2015. So win or lose, Canada will inject some new blood into the show.

The CBC won't have to worry about scheduling conflicts with the NHL playoffs.

Maybe it isn't official after all. The CBC now says it won't reveal if it will enter the Eurovision Song Contest, and how much it will cost taxpayers if it does. One thing is certain - taking part in the long time music competition isn't cheap.

Upvote Angine! Saw them recently at the Guelph Hillside Festival. Fantastic. They would attract a lot of votes from European countries as they are as popular there as here. On the other hand, the Eurovision Song Contest is all about glamour and glitz, and Angine de Poitrine is most definitety not that.
