The summer merry-go-round of absences is beginning, with both CFRB's Jim Richards and Deb Hutton taking time off. It means the early afternoon drive will be given over to Mark Twohey, a fill-in who has not done a regular shift at the station in a while.
He'll be on from 2-6 PM for the next week or so, and I'm actually looking forward to the change.

Meanwhile, over on AM640, Rob Fai is back in for Greg Brady. It's not immediately clear if this is the start of an extended vacation or just a long weekend.

I like Mark Towhey on-air and am actually surprised he doesn’t have a permanent show. I look forward to him filling in, especially since I’ve been avoiding Deb Hutton of late, I find a lot of her topics lately, kids, school problems, etc. do not apply to me.

Great news. Towhey is vastly superior to both Hutton or Richards. I will skip Mulroney on 640 (if he's there) for this welcome break.

Vassy Kapelos is also off next week. Not sure who is taking her place, but my guess would be Graham Richardson, who now does the Friday afternoon show in her place.

Greg is attending his son's high school graduation. Back on Monday.

That explains it. I did hear him reference the big graduation on Thursday. Good for him and his kid. A milestone in a student's life, but also for his family.

If 1010 wanted to make a splash, they would make calls to the most frequent guests on 640 and set up a decent, if not underpaid, bullpen of talent. Everybody needs summer fill-ins so have some spicy radio talk. Put Kevin Vuong on the air with Michelle Ferreri to skewer the left. Put Lander and Kam together have have two economics PhDs agree and disagree. Put Clayton Campbell and any cop who is not named Hank Idsinga together to fight about police issues. There are good radio teams left unhired.
