Ron MacLean Forced To Apologize On Last Hockey Broadcast of Season

It was a comment made about "roofies" that got the veteran Hockey Night In Canada broadcaster in trouble - and he was later forced to apologize for it.

Wasn't that at least as bad as "you people"?  But not paying the price.

Time to go on, Toronto Mike and call it a career. 40 plus years, your jokes are only getting more tired and worse. Ron, you're getting up there with Gary Bettman as the two things I don't like about NHL hockey in Canada

I would love another conversation with Ron. Here's his first visit: https://www.torontomike.com/2016/03/toronto_miked_podcast_episode_165/

On Friday Don Cherry's son Tim Cherry dropped by, and there was plenty of Ron and Don chatter in that one: https://www.torontomike.com/2026/06/tim-cherry-son-of-don-toronto-miked-podcast-episode-1916/

Being "forced", it was undoubtedly sincere.

As it turns out, that may have well been MacLean’s last broadcast.

Maybe or maybe not. I heard one of those commentators/experts on radio Wednesday morning say MacLean works for Sportsnet - not the CBC. So he could be back.

Maclean's current contract with Sportsnet is done, and the speculation on him not returning is real.  It was Rogers that fired Don Cherry, not CBC.
