Corus Announces Third Quarter Results - And They're Not Great

The last day of school is June 25th. The last day for Corus won't be June 26th, but we'll find out on that date whether the end will be any closer. The troubled broadcaster has confirmed it will be releasing its third quarter results for 2026 at the end of the month.

The conference call will be held at 8 AM, and available online thereafter.

Corus has been teetering on the edge of financial ruin for some time. The first quarter of the year saw them saddled with an $11.1 million loss. Quarter two was better - the losses were down to "only" $6.1 mlllion. And just last month, the company asked the CRTC to let new owners take over in exchange for a substantial reduction of debt.

What will happen this time? Stay tuned. It may be more entertaining than anything on their TV or radio stations.

It does not sound like anyone will be happy on June 26th.

There stock price has remained steadily at 3.5 cents. It has been there for a while now. Let's see if it stays there on Friday, goes up or down.

As they say in England, this may put a spanner in the works. Quebecor is asking the CRTC to block Corus' recovery plan because they want to take over the company.

"Quebecor, a dominant media platform in its home province, has been stalking Corus for two years, but has been unable to strike a deal acceptable to the company’s lenders.

On Thursday, Quebecor chief executive officer Pierre Karl Péladeau said in an e-mail that handing Corus to its creditors would weaken the Canadian media industry and leave Bell Media parent BCE Inc,. owner of the CTV network, as the dominant player."

And the plot thickens...

They can’t cut their way to free up cashflow much longer.  Assume more cuts to come.

Re: Corus Announces Third Quarter Results - And They're Not Great

Chief executive John Gossling says the results reflected significant savings from cost management initiatives, which helped partially offset continued pressure on linear television advertising demand.

Partially
meaning they can’t cut enough to make the business work with declining revenue.
