His Linked-In page indicates he's a "freelancer" and there's a Bell Media logo beside it, for whatever that's worth. I'm not sure how up-to-date it is, but he's listed as being in that position for 4 years and 3 months.

I'm bringing up this very old post from 7 years ago, simply because John Downs is anchoring the evening show on 680 News tonight, and this is the first time I've heard him on that station, or anywhere else for that matter, in many many years.

Is that the same John Downs that we knew from RB and 640? Could be, although I don't recognize the voice and I used to listen to him a lot.
His LinkedIn page indicates he's been doing a lot of acting since he left radio, including an appearance on the hit CBS TV show "Ghosts," (filmed in Quebec) where he played George Washington.

I thought it was the same guy (the voice sounded familiar, though admittedly I didn't listen to him as much as you used to), but I could very well be wrong.
