Stephen Colbert's Last Show Wasn't His Last After All
A footnote to history, perhaps, but a great one. Turns out Stephen Colbert's final show wasn't really his last talk show appearance. One day after Thursday's highly rated finale on CBS, the now out-of-work late night host turned up on, of all places, a Detroit-area community cable show.
The show was called "Only in Monroe" and it turns out Colbert has done this program before.
"It marked the second time Colbert has hosted “Only in Monroe.” As he said during the surprise Friday broadcast, he previously hosted an episode in the summer of 2015 just before taking over “Late Night” from David Letterman.
His guests included Jeff Daniels and Steve Buscemi, with The White Stripes' Jack White leading the "band."
Stephen Colbert is back on TV on community access in Michigan along with rocker Jack White

I saw this on The Late Show youtube channel, so I was not sure if it was real or not. I did check the Monroe Community channel website and did not see it there.
It looks like most of the show was written by The Late Show staff. I also think this could have been recorded earlier and released last Friday. But it makes for a good story.

Colbert's last show had a total of 6.74 million viewers, which is the same number for David Letterman's last show on CBS in 2015 according to AI. Looking back in 1992 for Johnny Carson's final goodbye, NBC had an audience of 50-55 million. This was an interesting read on how Steven's Monroe show was produced and when, also I did not know CBS was so picky about there content being shared. I thought having the people who are watching your content, sharing it for free on the different platforms would be good for business.

This is not a surprise. When you attract less than a million viewers on a major network late night slot, it means you're not off to a very good start.
