John Sterling called more than 5,000 games on the radio for the Bronx Bombers and became legendary for his infamous (and for Jays fans, irritating) "The Yankees Win! Thhhhheeee Yankees Win!" (You may remember when Vladimir Guerrero Jr. made fun of it when the Jays defeated New York in the playoffs last year.)
The Yanks won four World Series titles during his time on air, and he retired in 2024. He'd been behind the mic for an incredible 35 years.
Toronto fans and DXers may have heard him when the games were on WABC and WFAN.
He was 87.
