I Want Ben Mulroney's Deal With AM640
Yep, he's off again, this time on a Tuesday.
Lisa Raitt will be sitting in for the titular host of the Ben Mulroney Show. I've got nothing against people getting the day off, but it seems like the former CTV entertaniment reporter is taking it to new heights. I believe in the past few weeks, he's gotten at least one day or more off from his afternoon talk show. They never quite tell you why.
I know he has a lot of showbiz and political ties and may want to be at certain events his timeslot would otherwise not allow. But whatever his contract or agreement is with Corus, get me the same one!

I'd be scared to take so much time off. It's an opportunity for a PD to look at numbers (ratings) and perhaps decide that the person filling in is actually doing a better job...

That would be unfortunate. For whatever reason, I really tend to like Alex's show. I've been missing it all these weeks.

Lisa Raitt is vice chair of Global Investment Banking at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC). Obviously, a do nothing job with a nice title. Where does she get the time to do all these media appearances.

That would explain why she called in from Hong Kong (to speak with Brady) a few weeks ago.
Mulroney also left his show 1 hour early yesterday for some public or stage appearance. Drolet covered. I guess this is the margin of action given to a publicly recognized person and a pal of the PD.

Yes, they also branded it "Straitt Talk with Lisa Raitt". Today a mere Greg Brady segment, tomorrow a fuller show? If this is an "audition", perhaps any future show need not be the full 3 hours, maybe they elongate Brady or Mulroney and make the Raitt slot 2 or even 1 hour?
I don't regularly listen to Pierson's show, but respect she's a seasoned journalist who moved into talk and opinion. However, with the poor financial state of Corus they may be hoping any "celebrity" or known name is a draw to a show, thus increasing ratings. And if Raitt is paid even $10k less than Pierson - or even less than $10k below - then that's a cost savings right there in desperate times. Cost savings + brand name = must seem like a dream to the executive mindset.

It appears Ben Mulroney is off again Friday, with the two Mikes (Bedixen and Drolet) on instead.

Off again on Tuesday, with Mike Drolet filling in. Second Tuesday in a row he's been absent.
Does Ben Mulroney actually work there or is he just dropping by from time to time? Never seen an afternoon drive host with so much time off.

Didn't get to hear yesterday's show but illness is at least a good reason not to be there - again. All that running around must be wearing him out!
