How A Fake Radio Stn. Led Thousands Of German Soldiers To Surrender

Here's a great story about WWII I never heard before - and it wouldn't have happened without radio.

It started when the U.S. set up a fake radio station broadcasting to an area where thousands of German soldiers were posted. The "station" went on the air several months earlier and actually broadast Nazi propaganda, leading the soliders to think it was from their homeland.

So when an announcement came on one day to "warn" them that they were completely surrounded by enemy forces, and there was only one way out, they decided to take that route. They found U.S. soliders waiting for them and they were forced to surrender.

A very clever ruse that saved thousands of lives. And it would not have been possible without the power of radio.

Re: How A Fake Radio Stn. Led Thousands Of German Soldiers To Surrender

The British were the first to broadcast fake radio programs and propaganda to the German people in 1941.  They also had bogus radio stations that would broadcast misinformation  to the German people with captured soldiers acting as hosts and newsreaders so all of the reports sounded totally authentic..The Fake British Radio Show That Helped Defeat the Nazis
