WEBR Buffalo Adopts Yet Another New Format

And it's a familiar one. Earlier this week, WEBR, the station at 1440 AM (and several FM repeaters, none of which can be received here) officially became "The Breeze," featuring "Buffalo's Smooth Hits."

If that branding sounds familiar, it's because it was once used by the station that is now WTSS at 96.1 in the same city. It's since switched to a format described as "The 90's To Now."

WEBR, using a long defunct station's call letters, has been looking for an identity in a crowded market for a while. It's unclear whether this will break through, espeically with all the signal issues it faces.

Here's the newly revamped website.

Re: WEBR Buffalo Adopts Yet Another New Format

Not a bad looking website and you can listen to the station live.  Sounds like they may have some block programming, I heard a promo for a Polish program Saturday morning at 11am.

Listened for about 30 minutes and heard two cancon tunes, Someday from Glass Tiger and the much loved Seasons In The Sun which they played into NBC network news at 12noon.  Two minutes of news from NBC and followed by 1 minute of local.

Local sponsorships for weather and short commercial breaks.  Didn't hear any national ads but they did have spots for small local companies like a 30 second ad for a Buffalo cab company.

Overall WEBR sounds pretty good IMO.  And they have a live announcer mid day.  He is perfect for the Breeze format.

That's most likely brokered programming which provides a significant cash injection as sales may be somewhat slow.

A local Niagara Falls news site makes note of the format shift, which otherwise hasn't received a lot of mainstream press attention.
