There are all kinds of formats on HD Radio. Bell Media has a country station piggybacked on Virgin 99.9. A few of the ethnic outlts in town feature different languages on their HD offerings. But there's a good chance you've never heard anything like this.
"Vibe 99.7" aka KHYZ-FM in Las Vegas, has something on its HD channel that's unlike anything you've ever heard on radio. It's all ads all the time. And those "commercials" are all for one thing - the Internet. ISP.net Radio is about computers and connectivity, and it features only A.I composed songs about the web. The lyrics are all tech related, featuring artists that don't actually exist.
Lance Venta and Scott Fybush, the latter an honoured SOWNY member, discovered this odd little gem during a trip to the U.S. gambling Mecca, and couldn't quite believe what they were hearing. Isp.Net is a local Internet service provider who decided to have some fun with the channel promoting their services.
In an Internet post quoted on Radio Insight, the company wrote:
“Let’s face it: the worst part of radio is the music. You’re driving down the Strip, trying to focus on what really matters—high-speed microwave internet reliability—and suddenly, some Top 40 hit interrupts your train of thought.” They described the programming as “a revolutionary listening experience designed for the true isp.net superfan. We’ve cut the clutter, the DJ banter, and the art, leaving only what you crave: unadulterated, non-stop promotion of our service offerings.”
The "tunes" are all made up and relate to all things computer.
