After I found out about Dean Blundell's latest activity I looked up 94.9 The Rock playlist and was really surprised to see that they had just played Cities on Flame by BOC ( A track I don't ever remember being played on the Radio), A Buddy Holly track and Truckin' by the Dead. Wiki calls the stations format active rock ??
Where I live they come in like a local. How come we never see them on any Toronto ratings ?
Unlike their sister station KX that wants Toronto listeners (along with Ajax and area)
94.9 The rock chooses not to try too hard to gain a Toronto audience (or steal listeners from Q)
because they believe that nobody is going to go all the way out to Oshawa (from Toronto) to shop, and vice versa.
They want an audience (for the most part) that can get to their advertised businesses easily without the hike to get there.

Still a mystery to me. CFNY was a Brampton station but targeted Toronto and we currently have 88.5.
Also I don;t know why wiki refers to 94.9 as active rock. They play a few of those acts but the Barenaked Ladies or Mumford and Sons, who they also play, are not active rock,

88.5 is promoting themselves as a GTA station but their ads stretch as far out as Barrie.
Very odd since it's supposed to be a Newmarket station.
Hey Evanov! I don't want to know about a buffet restaurant in Barrie!! Tell me about one in NEWMARKET!!
Please! I want to know! What's the competition to Mandarin in Newmarket?
Ed the Sock also went on a rant not too long ago about at least one song played recently on 94.9.
He yelled "WHAT??? LEN? STEAL MY SUNSHINE IS NOT ROCK!!"
He's really not happy about some of the music choices that make it (somehow) to the 94.9 playlist.

Just occurred to me that I haven't heard the very repetitious ad from Monaghan Lumber on AM640 in some months now. A Peterborough store that used a Toronto radio station for 10+ years.

Your post reminded me of the ad for the Apple Grove Inn, located in Medina N.Y. that was a constant sponsor of the big band music show on CHML 900 in the early 70s. The ads were recorded by CHML announcers and used the more widely accepted pronunciation of Meh-DEE-nuh, whereas everyone in WNY seems to use the variation of Meh-DYE-nuh.

yes but Barrie is just up the road and gets a clear signal so why not take those ads to survive as a radio station owner? I would. GTA is different and their signal collapses once you get south of 401.

Barrie already has their own New Country radio station.

Nope. Orillia does.

Regardless, Pure Country 106 is serving Central Ontario (where Barrie also happens to be)
Barrie is not GTA. Newmarket is a GTA station. I don't want to hear about an ad for a business in Barrie. I want to know where to shop in Newmarket and area when I listen to Newmarket's 88.5 FM.

Have been diligently listening for your "classic pop fix" each afternoon but if I heard one, it didn't "register". At approximately what time can it be heard, please? Or, in the interest of efficiency, please state the title and artist.

4:37 daily.
Today's 4:37 feature was "I can see clearly now" performed by Holly Cole. Hope you enjoyed it, Shorty Wave
