It was one of ABC's longest running sitcoms, running from 1964 to 1972. And it turns out, it was magical in another sense, because a group of high school students wound up writing one of its most memorable episodes in 1969. How did these obscure school mates get a writing credit on a network TV show?

It's a story I've never heard before and as it turns out, I do remember this episode, although I had no idea of its origin. Quite a leap for 1969.
