So why do I still hear some Toronto Broadcasters...who should know...say Toron-TOE ?

I always thought the proper way is to pronounce the second "T" almost as a "D". I refuse to say "Toronno"; I just won't. It sounds lazy to me.

That's how The Kings pronounce it in "This Beat Goes On/Switchin' To Glide"---"you said to ring you up when I was in Toronno"

Correction of local names should be corrected immediately when an announcer goofs up. The other day it infuriated me to hear a reporter in Toronno screw up Eglinton Avenue.
It's EG-lin-tun, not EG-ling tun.
There is no ng in the second syllable.
Sheesh.

Sheesh.
The late John Michael used to have fun with this when he was on CKTB. He always insisted the name of the then mayor of Toronto, Art Eggleton, was really supposed to be pronounced as "Art Eglinton," joking everyone else got it wrong.

I posted this in the mispronunciation thread the day the Crosstown LRT opened:
What's awful is you can see the correct spelling being used on the left side for the name of the long standing subway station. It's not clear but you can notice the lack of a second "g".
As for this city, I tend to say "Tronno" but the "tr" almost sounds like the "ch" in chew...ending up with "ch-ronno".

"My Ch-ronno."
Wasn't that a big hit for The Knack in 1979? ![]()

I say both.
Mostly toronto but If I don't want to be made fun of for being to non-city, I say trono.
I've lived all my life here, but I wish I was born in a smaller city such as hamilton or ottawa.
I love all the ethnic food, disability survices for people like me, But I'm not much for packed street festivals and I am not the toronto youth steriotype of loving hip-hop and hanging at scarborough town centre all day.

Do any radio stations play the Knack's hit song "My Sharona" which has the lyrics, "Never gonna stop, such a dirty mind, I always get it up for the touch of the younger kind."
Probably Epstein's fave tune.
