World Radio Day Marked With An Emphasis On AI

It's taking over everything else - why not radio?

Feb. 13th is World Radio Day and this year, the theme is Artificial Intelligence - and how it may change the medium forever.

In this somewhat bizarre web page, UNESCO, the organization that originally proclaimed the day worldwide, comes up with some ideas for stations and listeners to mark the event.

13 ideas for celebrating World Radio Day

This tends to be a bigger deal overseas than here, but in the past, I have heard several stations air PSAs for 24 hours, especially on campus and community outlets.

Re: World Radio Day Marked With An Emphasis On AI

What does it say about an industry in trouble that the only day of the year officially honouring radio falls on Friday the 13th?

Not sure why they chose Feb. 13th to celebrate the medium, but I like the Spanish suggestion that it should have been held on Oct. 30th - the day Orson Welles proved how powerful the newcomer could be when he scared North America with the still iconic "War Of The Worlds" in 1938.

Anyway, Happy World Radio Day. And good luck to triskaidekaphobics.

Here's how one Muskoka radio station is marking the day
