If you've ever DXed, one of the first stations you probably picked up was 1100 AM.
Now known as WTAM, it was one of the strangest stories in the medium's history. It was once called KYW, unusual enough for a "K" call sign to be located in the east. Most know KYW as being in Philadelphia, and it was back then. Until the place in Cleveland and the one in Philly suddenly switched call letters.
The Cleveland version became a Top 40 powerhouse for a time and was one of the most popular in the city, with its massive 50K clear channel signal.
Then, suddenly, it all ended. The story behind this weird series of events is very strange and definitely worth a read if you're into radio history. And even if you're not.

Going back to 1921, KYW was in Chicago, but the call letters and frequency moved to Philadelphia in 1934 because it was determined that Chicago was given too many Clear Channels.
