My Ongoing Radio Nightmare

Sorry if I've seemed a bit off these past few weeks. I can't sleep because of a recurring radio nightmare.

In this terrible dream, a Yeti in a Subaru begins growling at me about Ronald McDonald House, wearing a $9,999 diamond ring from Spence that he says is a bargain. He then tells me he's donating the vehicle to Kars for Kids, but before he can do that, Frank Leo appears out of nowhere and insists he can get him a better price or he'll buy it.

I wake up screaming, trying to change my sleep station but it just keeps replaying on every one of them. I've asked several doctors, but they can't tell me what it all means. But you can see why I wake up so exhausted every morning!

Re: My Ongoing Radio Nightmare

In the final year of 900 CHML they were essentially down to 3 large local accounts plus those perennial OLG and Subaru ads. The locals were a roofing company, a real estate guy and a financial guy.

The locals were probably run by 'ML listeners and OLG and Subaru buy basically every station.

Re: My Ongoing Radio Nightmare

I know what you mean, I can't stop having nightmares about a guy with a thick South American accent who keeps telling me "There's somethin happenin here"  But I can never find out what it is that's happening.
Nobody will tell me.
I went to a hospital in Scarborough but they told me every day is an uphill battle for them by thousands of doctors and they need my help.
Next I went to the government but they just insisted I wait to win a lottery prize virtually nobody can ever win, but I should "dream to the max."

Re: My Ongoing Radio Nightmare

Maybe 'Clarence' from The Refuge could help.  Luckily, the growling man seems to have lumbered off back into the woods, and Fiona, Michael and Sarah have been replaced by some new chirpy young female Spence employee, now telling befuddled 'CEO' Callum what to do.

It’s the Yeti in a Subaru that gives me nightmares, especially if he can find skates that fit! (Worse Subaru ad ever). It understandable RadioActive, bad ads result in bad sleep, best to not listen but hard not to!

Re: My Ongoing Radio Nightmare

I hope these adds come off the radio somehow.
I do like the food basics and the new metro comercials.
The guy extends the m in metro to make it mmmmmmmmmmetro.
Maybe its because I love those 2 grocery stores that I like there radio adds.

The nightmare just keeps getting worse. Now the Yeti sounds like Fiona, and she tells me I have to go to all the events Glenn Crouter suggests on 640 every Sunday! Clearly, I need help...

Re: My Ongoing Radio Nightmare

That sounds truly harrowing. Honestly, I’m surprised you’re still functional and not wandering the streets muttering “call 1-877" under your breath. That’s not a nightmare, that’s a federally regulated psychological experiment. The doctors “can’t tell you what it means” because they’re afraid to admit the truth: your brain has been permanently colonized by radio ads and is now running them as pop-ups. Sleep stations? Cute. That’s like trying to escape glitter with a leaf blower. Frankly, the fact that you wake up screaming instead of whispering “terms and conditions apply" means you’re doing great. Stay strong. And if the Yeti starts offering 0% financing, please seek immediate help.

Re: My Ongoing Radio Nightmare

With due respect to the loss of the beloved Catherine O'Hara, the painfully awful 'Sleep Country' spots with our 'Sleep Daddy' Eugene Levy seem to have finally been shelved.  They were right up there with many of the rightfully mentioned awful ads above.

I'm not sure, but I think the Yeti mentioned that he works for Butler Mortgage and his real name is Wolfgang Klein.

I completely agree with your opinion of these commercials and I was hoping that you were also right about them being shelved, but unfortunately I've seen them a couple of times today.

Re: My Ongoing Radio Nightmare

Surprised RA didn't mention the United Way spot with the annoying alarm clock. You would think that would get him out of this radio nightmare slumber?

Here's what folks on Reddit say about annoying radio spots:

Yes, I've heard that one. But they keep sending Jiffy On Demand to try to fix the clock. And no one ever shows!

If this continues, I'm liable to wind up in a hospital - but only in Scarborough!

You mean 'Ska-bo-wo'?  They do so much, with so little, but you can help!  And all the Jiffy home experts are busy over at John Moore's place.

Re: My Ongoing Radio Nightmare

So true. And I think John may have wanted to call on Jiffy's help this morning in the 1010 studios. The subject he was interviewing was completely unable to express her intentions to run for Toronto mayor again later this year, no matter how hard he tried. At least the interview gave his 7:45am discussion panel some good fodder for debate and gave me a good laugh. I'm sure John Tory was left shaking his head.

Re: My Ongoing Radio Nightmare

Any idea why the 7:45 AM Roundtable started at around 7:40? I almost missed the beginning of it and they had to interrupt it for traffic and weather, which was odd. I'm not sure they've ever done that before.

Re: My Ongoing Radio Nightmare

In the latest version of my ongoing nightmare, the Yeti is now Babbel-ing in French, something about how Buda and Pest were once separate cities. This has to stop!

If it's all is driving you to drink, apparently there's a sale on right now, with big savings on missed school concerts, failed marriages, lost jobs, and your kids' embarrassment, at least that's what the endless ad says.

John Moore did make mention that the roundtable would start a bit early as they wanted time to debate what the mayor had just said (or not said). One funny part was Jerry Agar was a bit late to the table. He said that he didn't want to run into Olivia in the hallway, since he wouldn't be able to not say something to her. It sounded like it wasn't going to be just a civil "good morning". I would have loved to have seen the look on her face if she had run into Jerry.
