Sounds like they went to taped material rather than have a terrible phone line on air.

Update: He was finally there just before 6 AM. What a weird morning.

Agreed. Imagine driving through that mess, trying to stay on the road while still staying on topic and attempting to articulate your point on air. I'm sure it was a show opening he'll long remember. 

I did get one laugh when he finally got in. He noted that in snowstorms past, management had offered morning staff a hotel room, so they could be sure they'd be able to get in for their show. Brady didn't say so directly, but it doesn't sound like Corus made him that offer. So instead, he drove in from Whitby in what he called one of the worst commutes he's ever had to make during his time in radio.

Back when Ted Woloshyn was hosting 1010's morning show, I remember at least one time (possibly twice) where Ted had to call in and host via phone (I think it was the 5:30 am start time for the show, at that point) from his car because of the long drive in from Mississauga in terrible winter conditions. I believe Iain Grant (board op and fresh off "Early Edition") essentially co-hosted or bantered back and forth with Ted, so it wasn't "only" the call.

Amusingly (to me, anyway), Ted had to hastily wrap up the banter at one point because he said he was about to enter 1010's underground parking garage and there was no cell reception in there so he knew he was about to drop off. He caught the elevator up and the show proceeded pretty normally from that point.
