It's a station every DXer has received at some point. It was once known as WMAQ and is now WSCR, the all sports station at 670 AM in Chicago. It will still be there, but it's the latest to share its signal on a local FM frequency. The Score will be getting a new dial position at 104.3 in the Windy City, taking the rights to the Bulls and the Cubs along for the ride.
It's the latest of many 50K powerhouses to put a second signal on a different band. Other relatively recent examples include WFAN in New York, WBT Charlotte and KMOX St. Louis, to name a few.
And what of 670? So far, there's been no word of any format change or abandonment of the AM signal, but stay tuned. Many companies choose to keep the blowtorch simulcasts going, but some have either abandoned their AMs altogether or switched to something else. Another sign of the times.
The simulcast starts on Feb. 2nd, at which point I suspect all station I.D.s will mention nothing but the FM.

Radio Insight's story on this move includes this factoid at the end:
"After WSCR completes its move, 610 KILT Houston, 550 WGR Buffalo, and 1320 KIFM Sacramento will be Audacy’s only Sports talkers with local programming only on AM."
Where would WGR possibly go if the company decided to take it to an FM frequency? The only Audacy stations on that band in the city are Kiss 98.5, The Wolf 107.7 and WWWS-FM at 107.3, a simulcast of its 1400 AM signal. Since both of the latter are lower power outlets, only Kiss in Niagara Falls, N.Y. would have a decent enough reach to make it worthwhile. But its currently in the Top 5 in the ratings, and it's not likely Audacy would want to change its format.

WBT 1110 Charlotte NC had a loop with (stale) music last night redirecting to 107.9.
wbt.com lists only 107.9

So it's finally happened, has it? In a post from about a month ago, the station said it would be taking its AM in a new direction, after converting to a 100,000 watt FM signal. But they would not say what they were going to do with the 50K station at 1110 or when it might happen. Looks like the answer will be coming soon.
In this article, there's a video with WBT station personnel discussing the change after more than 100 years as an AM powerhouse.

The Country on the rimshot 107.7 is supplemented with a downtown repeater on 104.7. They could split the simulcast to give on of their AMs 104.7. They’d need to keep that AM going too.
