Odd that they would not launch this on the day after the holidays. It would make more sense that waiting an extra week.

Here's what's on the Z103.5 website:

Not that it’s a biggie, but I really don’t like their logo, very 80s to me!

Well, they're calling the show "The Morning Zoo" so at least it matches.

This show is Melanie Martin and Ronnie Stanton and it launches January 12 at 6 a.m.

What happened to Jimmy T? He had been at Z103.5 for years - then Boom - he vanishes. He and Melanie made a great combo - I thought a very enjoyable morning duo.

Ronnie & Melanie is laughably bad.... between David Corey on Chum and now Ronnie on Z103, our dear industry has apparently run out of talent even for a major market like Toronto..... sad

Another soul-crushing decision for any up-and-comers looking for a shot in Canada's biggest market. The format of Z should lend itself to young(er) voices. Instead, it's "G'day GTA!" starring... the beer-bellied boss? (Presuming he doesn't get yet another new gig before next week.)

Program directors (or brand managers, or whatever they're calling themselves these days) that put themselves on the air can often make for some interesting results.

Has anybody ever listened to a program director do an announce shift and think, "Gee, he missed his calling!"

I'm sure there's a few out there, but not exactly a dime a dozen.

Do young people even listen to radio anymore?

Your response, if you ask AI:

"Yes, young people still listen to the radio, especially in cars, but their habits differ from older generations, often blending traditional AM/FM with streaming; while streaming dominates at home, radio remains popular for discovery, news, and human connection, with studies showing high weekly reach for Gen Z and young adults (18-34) for its broad reach and ability to find new music."

(The above is an AI cut and paste, not something that I wrote myself-it's the response you get for simply asking Google if young people still listen to the radio.)

67% of Z listeners are under 44, for what it's worth

Re: Z103.5 all music this morning (New Show next Monday)

I started listening to HOT 103.5 in March of 1995 and gave up on them after Rick Campanelli left. (Four years ago, if memory serves)

Morning shows on Zee 103 average about 18 months.

Notable morning show "jocks" that were good but not good enough to last were...
Jessie Dillon (of Jessie & Gene formerly from AM640: Joined 103.5 when the music stopped on 640 in October 1995.)
Don Berns and Tom Allen,
Scott Fox, Dave Blezzard and Melaine Martin (the BEST trio)
Scott Fox again wit Katrina (Kat) Crawford and
Rick Campanelli with Ed the sock joining from time to time.
Honorable mention: Tony Monaco.
There were other morning shows in between some of these but I don't even remember who they were, like the one that lasted exactly 12 months after Scott, Mel and Dave left. (Scott and Dave announced they were fired.  Scott eventuallycame back before leaving again, Dave went to 92.5) Mel went to...Flow 93.5?

Since abandoning Z103, I became a dedicated listener of BBC Radio1.   Great music and better personalities.   Odd thing about Radio1: Their morning show (Breakfast show) is only one presenter, Greg James, while other shifts have two or three on at once.

After Dave left, you forgot Cory Kimm...

Re: Z103.5 all music this morning (New Show next Monday)

Every young person I talk to - with rare exception - tells me they don't listen to the radio, instead going to services like Spotify and Apple.

They just want the music, not the talk. And they want a choice in the music they hear. Can't say I blame 'em.

Maybe his endorsement contract for Hakim Optical fell through? 🤔
