Xmas Music Finally Ends On CHFI

It would have been a stretch to still be playing "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" long after he's gone back to the North Pole. CHFI, which had been playing Christmas music as recently as a few days ago, has finally turned off the Yule gruel for the year.

Their playlist has returned to normal in advance of the resumption of a more non-holiday schedule on Jan.5th.

For the doubters, CHFI was #1 on Dec 26, 27, 28, 29, and on the 30th they were #2 - 0.4 share away from Boom.

Many Orthodox listeners, I guess...

Maybe, but that's not what gets you to #1. Only massive wide-appeal can get you there.

Re: Xmas Music Finally Ends On CHFI

I've never heard the Christmas music CHFI plays, but I probably wouldn't like it. I go more for the traditional Christmas music. And, rather than starting it six weeks before Christmas, I'd prefet that they start aboput one week before and then keep some Christmas music in the mix from Christmas until New Years.

Re: Xmas Music Finally Ends On CHFI

it makes little sense to play Christmas music on 14th of November but not on 27th of December... CHFI made the right decision

The SXM Holiday Traditions channel went up until the end of Boxing Day. But the Siriusly Sinatra Channel still had a small amount of Christmas Music in the mix right up until New Years day, including this evening.

Re: Xmas Music Finally Ends On CHFI

I think that generally, AM740 gets their Christmas music right by mixing festive tunes in with their regular music about a week or so out from Christmas Day, then stepping it up Christmas Eve. Unfortunately they didn’t play that much Christmas music this year, probably due to their server “issues”. Too bad as they get the balance right between the classic and newer songs.

On the upside, I only heard Marilyn Lightstone’s “The Light Shines” Christmas song once, whereas it usually gets high rotation! Nothing against her, I just find that song a bit odd!

Me to.
I've heard it for years.
You won't like it.
I listen to sacrid christmas on iheart, classic fm christmas from the uk, or a family life christmas or ucb radio uk's christmas programing.
I miss star 102.5's christmas music because they were the only station that still played o holy night, ave maria, and others.

It all makes sense when you know who Moses Znaimer's significant other is. That's why she may have gotten more exposure than she actually deserves.

Oh I agree.... I'm saying if you're going to air it on 14th of November when nobody is in the mood and there's no snow, then you should also be doing it until New Year's Eve. Stopping it on Christmas Day is bizarre

Gotcha. That’s clear now that I re-read your post.

The first year a station I was at went All-Christmas we got a lot of complaints about it being too early. By the second year, the complaints were almost all about ending too early.

Re: Xmas Music Finally Ends On CHFI

Even today, Jan 2, SXM's Sinatra channel was still playing some, not real Christmas music, but music that is often associated with Christmas and is included in the Christmas repertoire on many staions. Songs like Baby it's Cold Outside, I've Got Your Love to Keep Me Warm, - - etc.
